Aims and objectives
"Give me the child until he is seven, and I will give you the man," so said the Jesuits, several centuries ago. Those involved in education have long been aware of the enormous learning potential of very young children. The British Suzuki Institute aims to promote the method of education developed by Dr Shinichi Suzuki to realise the inherent musical
abilities in young children by involving their parents in the process. The Institute was formed at the request of Dr Suzuki in October 1978 as an association of like-minded teachers, parents and academics.
Quality teaching for young children
Over the last two decades, the prime concern of the Institute has been to ensure the high quality of Suzuki musical instrument teaching in the UK. To that end, the BSI has undertaken to train teachers on a national basis. Courses for violin, piano, 'cello, guitar and flute are available.
Spreading the word
A journal is produced for members three times a year and the BSI also organises workshops and concerts for children with help from local Suzuki groups. The Institute is affiliated to the European Suzuki Association (ESA). The office stocks all the Suzuki repertoire music and CDs. Orders can be made by telephone using Visa or Mastercard.
Associate Membership
The Institute welcomes parents of pupils as Associate Members. The benefits? Entry into BSI & ESA
activities; three BSI and one ESA journals per year;
15% discount on music, books and CDs and 10%
discount on instrument insurance through British Reserve. The subscription is currently £22.00 per year. Find out more by visiting the Institute's own website at www.britishsuzuki.org.uk.
